What Not To Do After Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, a surgical reshaping of the nose, can be a life-changing process that boosts your confidence and enhances facial harmony. But like any other surgical procedure, a successful rhinoplasty requires not only the surgeon’s skill but also your dedication to follow post-operative instructions.
Just like do’s after rhinoplasty, understanding the don’ts is also essential to achieve the desired outcome and avoid additional rhinoplasty costs. So, let’s understand what you should avoid after rhinoplasty for a quick and smooth recovery.
Things Not to Do After Rhinoplasty
Here are a few things that you need to avoid after rhinoplasty for a safe and optimal recovery:
Strenuous Activities: After surgery, your nose becomes very delicate. Strenuous activities like high-impact sports, heavy lifting, and intense workouts can increase blood pressure and risk swelling, impacting your healing and potentially even displacing the delicate nasal structures. Therefore, instead of strenuous activities, go for a gentle walk or perform stretching exercises for two weeks. Once your cosmetic surgeon in Delhi permits, you can gradually increase your activities after two weeks.
Smoking and Alcohol Consumption: You should stop smoking and alcohol consumption for at least three weeks before surgery and continue quitting after the procedure for four to six weeks. Smoking constricts blood flow, interferes with healing, and increases the risk of infection. Alcohol acts as a blood thinner, potentially causing excessive bleeding and interfering with your medications.
Blowing and Picking Your Nose: It is the best way to clear or clean a stuffy nose, but blowing the nose can put undue pressure on the nasal tissues and disrupt healing. It may require additional correction surgery, which will increase the rhinoplasty costs. Instead, you can use nasal sprays or gentle snorting to clear congestion. Always wash your hands before touching your nose.

Sun Exposure: The sun’s UV rays are harsh on your healing skin, especially around the delicate nose area. Sun exposure can lead to swelling, discoloration, and even scarring. To protect your skin from sun exposure, wear a wide-brimmed hat and apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher whenever you step out, even on cloudy days.
Cosmetics or Accessories: During the first week of recovery after nose job surgery, your nose requires extra care. Applying foundation or other cosmetics on the treated area or around any incisions can increase the chances of infection. Wearing nose accessories can also increase the chances of bleeding. Therefore, avoid wearing cosmetics or accessories for two to three weeks after rhinoplasty.
Showering: After rhinoplasty, it is essential to maintain the dryness of your nose until the dressings are removed, usually around a week after the surgery. While you don’t have to avoid showering completely, it is crucial not to wet your nose until the dressing is removed. You can use a damp cloth for washing your face, ensuring indirect contact with water.
Also, you should not skip the follow-up appointments as these appointments help to monitor your healing progress and address any concerns or complications.
At the time of discharge, your surgeon will provide detailed post-operative instructions and the overall rhinoplasty cost. Strictly adhering to these instructions will help optimize results and promote the best possible outcome after your procedure.
