Saline vs Silicone Implants

Breast implants are opted for by people who want larger breasts and are unfulfilled with their current breast size. These are a medical device that is surgically placed inside a woman’s breasts to give them a better shape to enhance their appearance.

There are mainly two types of breast implants: silicone and saline implants. Both have their own features. Whether to proceed with the two depends on the individual’s needs and the surgeon’s suggestions. The main difference lies in the substance they are filled with inside.

What are Breast Implants?

First of all, we will understand what breast implants are.

Breast implants are like small pouches placed inside a woman’s breasts to make them bigger. They can be filled with salt water (saline) or a jelly-like substance(silicone). People choose breast implants to feel more confident about their appearance, but before proceeding with this, you should always take your surgeon’s recommendations and advice.

Difference Between Saline and Silicone Implants

Various cosmetic surgeons use both of these implants. The major differences between the two are stated below:

Saline Implants: They have an outer covering of silicone, but this shell is inserted into the breast first and then filled with sterile salt water. This means that the incision in this implant is smaller and less noticeable. However, some say that they feel more firm than natural breasts.

    • If they rupture, the saline solution filled inside is harmlessly absorbed by the body.
    • The detection of rupture is immediate because the breast deflates.
    • They are more prone to wrinkling in thin individuals.
    • These implants are less expensive than silicone implants.

Silicone Implants: These implants have a silicone outer shell pre-filled with silicone gel (a jelly-like substance). They closely resemble the feel of natural breast tissue. Unlike saline ones, these are already filled, so the incision is larger.

    • Detecting rupture in these implants is more difficult as leaks are not as obvious here.
    • They are less prone to rippling and wrinkling, providing a smooth look.
    • They are usually more costly than saline implants.
    • They feel softer and more natural than saline ones.

Is One Type of Implant Safer than Another?

Both types of implants are safe if you consult the best plastic surgeon in Delhi for your breast augmentation surgery. Some believe saline implants are safer because even if they rupture, the body can easily absorb the saline water. However, the look and feel of silicone implants are more natural and long-lasting. Determining which type of implant you should choose depends on the following factors:

    • Individual choices
    • Body type
    • Recommendation by your surgeon
    • Medical considerations

Your decision between these saline implants and silicone implants is completely your preference. However, you should consult a qualified plastic surgeon before making any decision. Your surgeon will be able to assess your body, discuss your goals, and then proceed with any breast implant.
