What to Expect After Your Breast Reduction Surgery?

Like any other surgical procedure, recovering from breast reduction surgery requires time and patience. Therefore, it is essential to understand what to expect after the procedure for smooth recovery. The majority of patients are discharged on the same day as their surgery.

In this blog, we will explore what to expect immediately, in a few days, weeks and months after having a breast reduction surgery. Let’s get started.

Immediately After Surgery

The best cosmetic surgeon in Delhi will also apply a compression bra to support wound healing.

The Days After Surgery

During the initial few days after surgery, it is expected to experience discomfort and pain. You can also experience bruising and swelling around your breasts due to breast tissues and muscles stretching during the procedure. The most intense discomfort typically occurs in the first few days after the surgery. Your surgeon can recommend some medications to relieve this pain. Also, you should avoid strenuous activities during this time as they can hinder your recovery and increase the breast reduction surgery cost because an additional procedure may be required.

    The Weeks After Surgery

You can notice a significant reduction in pain and swelling after 2-3 weeks post-surgery. Although, in some cases, mild discomfort and pain may persist, it is generally much less intense. After a couple of weeks, your doctor will remove the stitches. Still, you need to wear a compression bra, eat healthy, stay hydrated and avoid alcohol for a quick and smooth recovery.

During this timeframe, you can resume your daily work routine. However, the timing for returning to work can vary based on individual lifestyles, workplace conditions, and recovery rates.

By the end of the third week after breast reduction surgery, you will not experience any pain. During this period, many women start to enjoy the benefits of their breast reduction surgery, including reduced neck and back pain. Clothing fits better, and you often feel more agile.

Most women will fully recover after breast reduction within 3 to 4 weeks. At this point, you can generally resume virtually all strenuous exercise and replace the post-operative compression bra with a sports bra. Avoid wearing an underwired bra for at least three months to avoid aggravating the scars.

    The Months After Surgery

While the recovery period varies from person to person, most women will feel normal again in 3 to 4 months. The swelling will subside completely, and you can enjoy the final results of your breast reduction surgery. You should no longer be experiencing shoulder, neck, or back pain.
