Gynecomastia – All Questions Answered Regarding Male Boobs!

Gynecomastia – All Questions Answered Regarding Male Boobs!

Gynecomastia is a hormonal condition which affects men all over the world. It is a very common condition where male breasts develop and become very visible due to the hormonal changes during adolescence.

These changes typically affect men during puberty. Therefore, by the time they reach the ages of 24-25, while they see their developed breast tissue, their hormone levels seem completely normal. This can be very confusing and disheartening to see.

How do you know if you have Gynecomastia?

If you think you have Gynecomastia, all you need to do is feel your breast. Gynecomastia usually presents as a soft lump behind the nipple, which makes it stick out. If you feel a hard lump, consult a doctor immediately since that may be a tumour.

You should anyway consult a doctor to confirm whether or not you have Gynecomastia. Through blood samples, urine tests and other methods, the doctor determines whether or not you have Gynecomastia.
This makes it completely different from chest fat.

Chest fat involves fat deposits on the chest, creating the appearance of developed breasts. In the case of Gynecomastia, such deposits do not happen. Since it is caused hormonally, it is a development of the breast tissue rather than fat deposits. This means that the breast development women go through during puberty also happens in men during puberty.

And, in many men, this is a huge source of embarrassment. They feel that they cannot go shirtless in front of other people. This also prevents them from enjoying activities such as swimming or beach holidays. And, when months of chest exercises do not change their condition, their mental and emotional health also gets affected. This can have long-term impacts like depression due to a complete lack of satisfaction with their body.

Can exercise or intermittent fasting solve Gynecomastia?

    The short answer: no.

Since the cause of the male breasts is not chest fat, there is no way chest exercises or fasting affect it. You do not burn tissue when you work out. You burn fat. So, while any additional fat on your chest may reduce, the Gynecomastia itself remains unaffected. That is, your breast tissue does not reduce. It cannot reduce because your body does not view it as excessive since it is tissue. Your body treats it as if it is completely normal and supposed to be there.

This is especially since your hormone levels in adulthood are completely normal. Therefore, your body gets no indication that anything may be wrong. While your mental health goes downhill due to your appearance, your body cannot physically fix itself the way it might, by burning off excess fat.
So, how do you solve it? How do you convince your body to view this as a problem that needs solving? Well, you can’t convince. But luckily, there is a solution for you:

    Cosmetic surgery.

Gynecomastia can only be solved surgically. This is because, as we have established, it is a development of the breast tissue. Therefore, the tissue needs to be removed for the flat, athletic chest you desire. After surgery, it is up to you to maintain it since the fat may get deposited there. However, the tissue will never develop since the adolescent hormones no longer exist.

This is where plastic surgery comes in. Expert board-certified surgeons like Dr Rajat Gupta have developed excellent methods to treat Gynecomastia in Delhi. With the advancement of cosmetic surgery and the kind of technological development at RG Aesthetics, his methods ensure a pain-free procedure with impressive scar-free results.

And this brings us to one of the most critical points:

The Kind of Surgeon and Centre You Need

The surgeon and centre are crucial to your surgical experience. Some people go to general surgeons who do not specialise in cosmetic surgery. This is because these procedures are at cheaper rates.

But these cheaper rates come at an enormous cost.

    More Trauma

The lack of technique a non-specialisation surgeon has affects the final result. But it also dramatically affects the procedure itself. If you needed heart surgery, you would not go to someone who did not specialise in heart surgery.

Similarly, you need a plastic surgeon for plastic surgery. If you do not choose a well-reputed, board-certified surgeon like Dr Gupta, the kind of trauma your body undergoes during surgery substantially increases.

And when you incur greater physical trauma, the recovery takes time. Additionally, someone who does not use the scar-free technique Dr Gupta uses gives you a scar on your chest.

This defeats the point of urging the patient to go shirtless. The goal of Gynecomastia treatment in Delhi should be giving you completely natural-looking results. And part of this is using tiny scars that are not visible on the front of the chest.

The point is to give the patient confidence to go swimming or on a beach holiday that requires them to remove their top. Therefore, replacing the breasts with a scar makes no sense.

    Worse Infrastructure

The second problem with going to a non-specialisation surgeon lies in the centre they access. When you get the surgery done, you want the hospital or clinic you go to to be well-equipped for your needs.

At RG Aesthetics, we adhere to international standards of patient care which means all our surgeons are trained in the best technology. In fact, Dr Gupta has also undertaken a mission to educate plastic surgeons all over India in the MicroAire and VASER technology used in our surgeries.

Inadequate infrastructure also increases trauma. Not having the right equipment affects the time you spend at the centre and the quality of care you receive at that centre.

The bottom line is, combining these reasons; you can see that the lower cost of surgery is not worth it. Like any other surgery, the quality of your Gynecomastia procedure matters more than how much you pay for it.

    The Worst-case Scenario

The final problem with getting inadequate quality care lies in the aftermath of the procedure. Lower quality translates into less satisfactory results. While you may believe that getting this fixed is easy, it is not.

Dr Gupta has received patients who come for secondary, corrective surgery. But correcting the ill effects of a past procedure is much harder than doing an original procedure. This is because trauma has already been inflicted in that area, and corrective surgery requires further trauma, putting you at additional risk.

Therefore, avoiding this worst-case scenario is crucial. Doing corrective surgery will still not give you the results you want while increasing your overall Cost of the Gynecomastia procedure. Instead, paying a little more for a better surgeon, centre and technique saves you the extra expenses since you get a completely safe procedure with permanent, natural-looking, scar-free results!

The Gynecomastia Procedure – Ideal for You!

Now that you know what Gynecomastia is, if you have it and the kind of care you deserve, we are at the main point:

How is Gynecomastia treated? How do we give you the natural-looking results you truly desire?

We have made several claims throughout this article so far, including the results being scar-free, using the latest technology and much less trauma with completely natural-looking results.

Now we are going to back these claims up with evidence by taking you through the entire procedure step-by-step.

    Step 1: The Incisions

After administering anaesthesia, Dr Gupta begins by making incisions. These incisions are the reason we brought up the point about the placement of scars. Unlike some other plastic surgeons who might make incisions on the front of your chest, Dr Gupta makes strategic incisions on the side.

He makes minuscule incisions of 3-4mm on the side of your chest, under your arm. Not in the underarm since that could cause a bacterial infection.

Placing the incision under the arm and on the side of the chest ensures that it becomes invisible to the naked eye.  It is also not on the front of the chest. This means you can easily go bare-chested swimming and on the beach vacation with zero worries about anyone seeing your scar and being able to tell you had plastic surgery. The tininess of the scar greatly reduces the trauma caused to your body. Therefore, not much healing of the skin is required, which in turn reduces pain during and after the procedure. It also seriously cuts down on the recovery time.

Additionally, the technology Dr Gupta uses in the procedure do not require more significant incisions. 3-4mm is enough for them to do their magic.

And this brings us to the next part:

    Step 2: The Technology Used

As we stated earlier, Dr Rajat Gupta is one of the few plastic surgeons in India who specialises in the latest MicroAire and VASER technology. These internationally-recognised methods have superb results while causing minimal trauma.

This is why we ensure that our centre is equipped with them. Using them, we can guarantee state-of-the-art patient care and maintain a completely patient-centric view.

Also, since both MicroAire and VASER use cannulas, they offer an incredibly high level of precision. The exact location for fat and tissue removal is targeted, and the fat and tissue is quickly and easily removed.

So, what are these two methods?

    MicroAire aka Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

Although the Gynecomastia treatment is not strictly-speaking liposuction since it is tissue removal more than fat removal, the same methods can still be applied.

Why is it called power-assisted? Because that is literally what it is. The other form, VASER, uses ultrasound to break up and remove the fat. Meanwhile, the MicroAire technique, as the name suggests, releases air while the cannula moves back and forth rapidly.

    So how is it done?

Dr Gupta inserts a cannula through the incision. This is attached to the MicroAire machine and uses a vacuum to suction out the gland. The cannula, once inserted, is rapidly moved back and forth inside the tissue, making it break up. This breakup of the breast gland and tissue makes removal very easy. The tiny size of the cannula, along with this significantly reduces trauma while allowing for immense precision during the procedure.

After this, Dr Gupta uses VASER for the final, best results.

    VASER aka Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

Unlike PAL, VASER requires no movement of the cannula in the gland. After using PAL, the excess tissue and fat are easily and quickly removed. This is when VASER comes in.

As a UAL, VASER uses ultrasound waves to melt and emulsify fat before removing it. These ultrasound waves are released through the rings around the tip of the cannula. They also carry heat with them. And it is for this heating property that Dr Gupta uses the machine in his procedure.

When the UAL cannula is inserted through the incision, it is placed under the skin. This means that the released ultrasound waves heat the skin from underneath. When the skin receives such heat, it shrinks and tightens automatically.

This is why we need the VASER tool.

After removing your Gynecomastia, we do not want any sagging skin left behind. Instead, we need to ensure your chest becomes flat and look aesthetic. This can only be achieved by tightening the skin.

VASER provides the first step of tightening through the heat it gives out. After this, we ensure your chest maintains its new shape by making you wear a compression garment customised to fit you. This pushes your new chest into place and prevents any complications.

The compression garment is a part of the recovery process, which is why now we move on to the recovery process.

Recovering From Your Gynecomastia Treatment in Delhi

The state-of-the-art technology we use ensures that the procedure remains a daycare procedure. This means that the entire procedure takes only a day to complete. The patient can go home on the same day.

This makes it a very convenient procedure for the patient, too since they do not have to endure days of hospitalisation.

The recovery process is also very easy since it takes barely any time at all. As we stated, the VASER tool does a considerable amount of the work itself by tightening the skin and letting it fall over the new chest shape, creating a completely natural final look.

The minimally invasive nature of the MicroAire and VASER tools significantly reduce the inflicted trauma too. The patient feels no pain in the days following the surgery. After going home, all they feel is a slight discomfort for 3-4 days after which it goes away, and they are completely comfortable in their new body!

Within a week after your surgery, you are free to resume cardio and light exercises which cause zero strain to your chest. This ensures you get back to original shape and keep your fitness. Weight training and other such heavy-duty exercises can be resumed after two weeks. These include chest exercises that help you maintain and also further develop your chest and chest muscles. This also enhances your chest further, giving you a more athletic finish.

While any discomfort disappears within a few days, you may still have a slight tightness due to VASER tightening your skin and the lack of fat and tissue. This tightness and any swelling reduce over the next few months, and you slowly see the final results.
