All You Need to Know About Liposuction at RG Aesthetics

All You Need to Know About Liposuction at RG Aesthetics

How do you decide whether or not you need liposuction? And why would you choose a surgical procedure when there are so many other alternatives?

That’s because these other alternatives are not effective.

When you decide to get liposuction, you are taking steps towards a permanent solution that is much safer than certain alternative surgical procedures like gastric bypass or provide more immediate results than cool sculpting.

What makes liposuction different from gastric bypass surgery?

Unlike gastric bypass, liposuction is entirely non-invasive. It also is a very superficial and targeted procedure. Additionally, it has the ability not only to target the stubborn subcutaneous fat, but, also removes excess skin.

Gastric bypass helps you lose weight but also can leave behind a lot of excess skin. Liposuction specifically removes the fat instead of changing one of your body’s major systems, i.e. the digestive system.

It should also be noted that liposuction serves a different function than gastric bypass. Gastric bypass helps you lose weight and is recommended for BMIs exceeding 30. Meanwhile, liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that helps anyone unhappy with how their body looks.

Therefore, liposuction is not your answer to weight loss. You may have lost a lot of weight before your liposuction procedure through dieting and exercise. But, often, even after religious dieting and exercising, you begin stagnating. Your subcutaneous fat does not burn. And that is where liposuction comes in.

What makes liposuction different from cool sculpting?

While the differences between liposuction and gastric bypass are noticeable, i.e. the former is used for cosmetic purposes but cannot solve problems like obesity. In contrast, the latter can, the difference between liposuction and cool sculpting is less obvious.

Cool sculpting is a non-invasive medical procedure that removes fat cells from under your skin without surgery. Instead of using a cannula to vacuum and suction out the fat, cool sculpting uses a unique tool that cools a roll of fat to freezing temperature.

These frozen, dead fat cells are automatically eliminated by the body through the liver in the weeks following your treatment. This usually happens over a series of sessions which could take several weeks.

Meanwhile, liposuction only takes one time to remove the fat from a particular place. Within one 1-2 hour session, all the fat is permanently gone from the area. This immediacy of results also means that Cool Sculpting often costs less than liposuction as an alternative option.

But that is also because, with recent developments in technology, the kind of results liposuction can achieve has become nothing short of marvellous.

    What can liposuction achieve?

Liposuction basically attacks the stubborn fat that lies between your skin and the underlying muscle. This is the fat that refuses to burn regardless of how many crunches you do or how many calories you cut.

Liposuction removes it and gives you the aesthetic figure you desire. However, after that, it is up to you to maintain it that way.

Liposuction can target areas such as:

    • Thighs: Having big thighs is a huge worry, especially in women. The much sought-after thigh gap is easily achieved through liposuction while ensuring they do not become completely skinny and unappealing.
    • Hips: Having love handles is considerable fear among women and men alike. Liposuction allows us to contour the hips for the perfect hourglass or V-shape!
    • Buttocks: While big buttocks may be in style, it still needs to be proportional to the rest of your body. If all the fat collects in your buttocks, liposuction removes it, so you always have the curve, but it adds appeal.
    • Belly: The most common place for liposuction, the tyre of fat that collects around your stomach often refuses to burn away no matter what. So liposuction removes it and gives you the flat tummy you deserve.
    • Arms: People often feel exceedingly conscious of their arms. Especially if their upper arms are big and flabby, they feel very uncomfortable. They cannot wear certain clothes because of it. Liposuction removes this inhibition by removing the excess fat from the arms.
    • Neck: Most of us know someone with fat on their neck. This especially comes with age, although it may come earlier. Therefore, often, when someone gets a facelift, liposuction is also done on the neck and then a neck lift so that you have a tighter neck and a more youthful look.

As a well-known cosmetic surgery option, it is evidently used widely. This is primarily because of the way techniques have developed, increasing its safety. That said, like any other medical procedure, it, of course, has its own set of risks.

However, most of these risks arise out of the kind of surgeon and centre you use for your procedure.

Where and By Whom Should You Get Liposuction?

Always ensure you get liposuction from a well-reputed, board-certified plastic surgeon. As our in-house board-certified expert Dr Rajat Gupta says, the surgeon and the centre the surgeon operates out of determines the quality of your final result.

Some people make the grave mistake of going to a non-specialist for their procedure. The danger here is that complications could arise later on during recovery. The removal process may not be done with the latest technology, therefore inflicting more trauma on the body, too.

If you do go to a plastic surgeon specifically, the next step is checking what kind of centre they operate out of is crucial. The centre needs to be completely equipped to meet all your needs. Only with state-of-the-art infrastructure can you get the incredible results you want.

Therefore, in the art of body contouring surgeries, there are three aspects to keep in mind:

    • The surgeon
    • The centre
    • The technique your surgeon uses

The third point is in congruence with the first. It is only by having an expert surgeon can you truly remove the amount of fat necessary safely.

How do you know how much fat to remove?

While most plastic surgeons keep a limit for themselves of 5kgs, they also determine the amount of fat they can safely remove based on your BMI.

As we have previously established, surgeons like Dr Gupta are the reason technology has evolved. Their expertise and dedication to the art of contouring ensure that they perfect specific techniques which also help them know how much fat to remove indeed.

However, something to note is that these techniques and this kind of precision are achieved at a higher cost. Getting your desired results from experts obviously changes the cost of liposuction. The better and more reliable the technique is, the more precision it requires. It also requires better equipment. All of this affects the cost of liposuction, making it higher for better service.

Is the higher cost worth it?

In short: yes. If a higher cost means better service and results, then it is entirely worth it. After all, wouldn’t you rather have long-lasting, good results from a safe procedure than unnatural results and more visible scars?

This is also the idea behind Dr Gupta’s liposuction in Delhi. He aims to give you a scar-free, painless experience. He does this by employing advanced techniques such as MicroAire and VASER, which reduce trauma and give you better overall results.

He does this by adhering to international standards of patient care. Ensuring you stick to such standards also increases the cost of liposuction. Especially since these standards require a certain kind of equipment – usually state-of-the-art equipment that is the most modern and allows you to execute the best techniques.

That said, the cost of Dr Gupta’s liposuction is also comparable with major international liposuction centres like Sono Bello. Several international patients have found the cost at these laser liposuction centres too high and therefore come to India for Dr Gupta. They come here and find that the quality is the same if not better while using the same or, at least, similar techniques.

This officially brings us to the next section:

    How is liposuction done?

Liposuction in Delhi is done very carefully. As we stated previously, the targeting of particular areas requires a certain level of precision. And having a board-certified expert like Dr Rajat Gupta on board helps you achieve this quickly and easily.

So, how does he do this?

    Making the Procedure Painless

The first step is administering general or local anaesthesia so that the procedure remains pain-free. Following this, the targeted areas are carefully marked so that the surgeon knows precisely where to extract fat from.

    The Invisible Scars

The next step is making incisions. Here, it should be noted that, when Dr Gupta makes incisions, he always makes them as small as possible – not exceeding 3-4mm – this way, causing minimal trauma to the body.

In addition, he always places them in well-hidden areas. E.g. when performing submental liposuction, he makes tiny incisions of 0.5mm under the chin in various inconspicuous locations. This results in tiny scars under the chin, which are barely visible unless the other person is close enough to see them.

This is because he believes that there is no point removing the fat if the scar is going to prevent you from flaunting your body anyway. This is especially something he tackles in his gynecomastia treatment. Although he may not perform liposuction to treat gynecomastia, he still hides the scar so that the patient can go around shirtless without worrying about their body.

The scar-free experience adds to the natural finish of his procedure. Therefore, he always makes the tiniest scars before beginning the main part of the surgery – using VASER and MicroAire.

VASER and MicroAire – the Two Main Liposuction Techniques

As modern as they come, VASER and MicroAire together are minimally invasive procedures that provide excellent results.

    VASER

VASER stands for ‘Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance’. VASER or Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL) is a technique where the cannula is inserted into the fat layer through the incision, as mentioned earlier. Unlike a regular cannula where it vacuums out the fat, UAL operates on the same principle as the laser liposuction you receive in Sono Bello. This also makes it an exceedingly minimally-invasive procedure. This non-invasiveness gives VASER a certain level of safety as a liposuction technique due to the minimal trauma incurred by the body.

The cannula in the VASER technique has rings around the tip. Therefore, when it is inserted into the fat layer, it releases ultrasound waves, melting and emulsifying the fat. Simultaneously, it heats the skin from underneath, making it shrink and tighten over the new muscle shape. Therefore, it serves a dual purpose of removing fat while ensuring there is no sagging skin left behind.

While this is called laser lipolysis in Sono Bello and uses a laser specifically, the results achieved are equal with the VASER technique.

    MicroAire

MicroAire liposuction, also known as Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is just as non-invasive as VASER. The cannula inserted is equally small in size, and the technique it uses reduces the effort the surgeon needs to put in.

In traditional liposuction, the surgeon manually vacuums out the fat through a cannula. This poses difficulty and also allows more space for error. And, when it comes to medical or surgical procedures, the smallest mistake can have devastating consequences.

MicroAire enhances precision with a tiny cannula and by enabling a rapid back and forth movement that suctions out the excess fat. This movement being machine-made ensures reliability and fewer traumas.

Being a PAL, it provides the additional benefit of not affecting the surrounding tissue. Since it works on the premise of a machine, the removed fat is undamaged. This means it can be treated and replaced in the body. In a lot of patients, Dr Gupta has done precisely that. Especially in his female patients, he removes the fat from the abdomen through MicroAire. He then grafts it into the buttocks or some other region, enhancing it for a better figure.

Together, MicroAire and VASER work perfectly to target all the regions we mentioned earlier, such as the arms, belly, buttocks etc. Since they have been in use for over a decade now; they are some of the safest liposuction techniques available to experts.

And Dr Gupta, being an expert in their usage, also goes around the country teaching his fellow plastic surgeons how to use these techniques. This way, he is continually increasing the quality of cosmetic surgery not only in his own practice but all over the country.

Recovering from Liposuction – The Timeline

Both MicroAire and VASER are minimally-invasive, leaving behind very tiny, nearly invisible scars. This lack of trauma, we have established, corresponds to the lack of trauma that these techniques deliver onto the body. However, it also corresponds to the amount of time spent on recovery, i.e. recovery becomes a breeze.

The main precaution during recovery that Dr Gupta advises is the compression garment. This corset-like garment ensures you keep your new shape while also pushing the skin to stick to the underlying muscle and close the gap that the fat once occupied.

After 4-6 weeks of wearing the garment, it can be removed, and you officially see the results of your surgery.

Meanwhile, you can return home on the same day of the procedure, after your surgery. You are fit to resume your daily activities.

After 2-3 days of rest, you can resume your desk job. If you do fieldwork, waiting longer is preferable. Simultaneously, during this period, you can begin your massages. Using coconut or arnica oil or a body moisturiser, you start massaging the swelling and bruising to help it reduce, with strokes taught by Dr Gupta himself.

After a week, you can resume cardio exercises, and after two weeks, you can resume your entire workout regime. By the end of 2 weeks, 70-80% of the swelling should have reduced, and you should be able to see the results of your surgery more clearly.

However, that said, you will only truly see the full results from your surgery after six months. Until then, although you see the initial results, you cannot see the final results. As time goes on, you see your results become more visible and look more natural.

And this brings us to the final, main question that we have kept touching on throughout this blog:

Are the results of liposuction permanent?

The answer is complicated – yes and no.

By removing the fat cells at their root, liposuction removes the ability for that area to produce any more fat.

However, that does not prevent fat from being stored in other parts of the body. Studies have revealed that a lot of people who lose fat via liposuction gain all of it back, just in different parts of the body.

The answer to this is ensuring you stay healthy. If you choose a brilliant, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr Gupta for your procedure, losing the results, he gives you is not an option.

Always aim to stay around your original weight before the surgery. This way, you keep your results. Because, although liposuction and its alternatives like Cool Sculpting will always exist, constantly getting them is not an option. The more procedures you get, the higher the risk to your physical health. Therefore, keeping yourself healthy and your body in shape is of primary importance when it comes to liposuction.
