Everything You Need to Know About Female Genital Rejuvenation
As a leading plastic surgery centre, we often get asked what the weirdest body part we have operated on is. Answering that is impossible, especially considering the joy our procedures bring our patients. However, this does lead us to talk about something significant: the stigma around cosmetic surgery.
The stigma surrounding plastic surgery becomes especially unfortunate when it comes to women and their bodies. In a culture where talking about women and their sex drive is very taboo, discussing ways of enhancing themselves and their sexual experiences are frowned upon. They are not given the support they deserve when they do not feel like they are the best version of themselves.
As doctors, we know that our job is being sensitive and compassionate towards them and their needs. This is why we have chosen to talk about a highly stigmatised procedure: vaginal plastic surgery.
What is vaginal surgery in Delhi?
Also called female genital rejuvenation, this procedure involves tightening the vagina and making it more aesthetically appealing. It is usually done after childbirth to restore the vagina to its previous state. This is done by reshaping the vulva and labia, i.e. the outer and inner lips of the vagina, through a vulvaplasty and labiaplasty, respectively.
Understanding this requires knowing the structure of female genitalia. Studies have shown that very few women are actually well-acquainted with their sexual organs. If a woman wants female genital rejuvenation, then she needs to know about her external organs, at least.
Let us discuss the makeup of external female genitalia. There are primarily five parts that your surgeon focuses on when doing vaginal surgery in Delhi.
- The Mons: The hair-bearing area in the upper portion over the pubic bone.
- Labia Majora: The hair-bearing outer lips.
- Labia Minora: The inner lips.
- Clitoral Hood: The upper portion in the centre which covers the clitoris partially or entirely.
- Vaginal Opening: The vagina which lies below the clitoris and the urethral opening.
Now that we understand the external structure of the female sexual organs; let us talk about vaginal plastic surgery and why it is done.

Why get vaginal plastic surgery in Delhi?
As a woman ages or if she undergoes childbirth, the vagina naturally loosens. While most women have no problem with such loosening, some of them may feel less sexually charged. This is due to a lack of adequate stimulation post-childbirth. It is also a side effect of the vagina loosening. When a woman experiences sexual activity post-childbirth, the loose vagina can lessen the pleasure she feels.
The disfigurement of the vagina during childbirth can also lead to pain during exercise. This, combined with the change in the way her vagina appears, can push her to get her genitals rejuvenated for increased sensation and pleasure.
Therefore, the benefits of vaginal rejuvenation are:
- It can tighten the female genitalia.
- It can improve sexual satisfaction.
- It can enhance the sensation in the region.
- It can reduce the size of the labia – sometimes the labia or mons bulge making it challenging to enjoy wearing jeans. This is also something labiaplasty can treat.
- It can make the vagina and vulva more aesthetically-pleasing
- It does not prevent future childbirth.
The best part, here, is that the patient gets all these benefits of vaginal rejuvenation with minimal (or sometimes no) invasion! But this, of course, depends on your surgeon.
Best Type of Surgeon for Vaginal Surgery in Delhi
There are a lot of factors that can make a surgeon perfect for vaginal plastic surgery or make them completely wrong. Patients need to be aware that they can have the best and that they deserve the best. Especially when it comes to a procedure like female genital rejuvenation which requires a lot of sensitivity, the patient often needs extra reassurance and an open-minded surgeon.
So, what should you look for in a surgeon?
High-Quality Qualifications
First and foremost are the qualifications. Having a board certification and international experience usually makes the right surgeon. Additionally, if they showcase positive patient reviews, you have increased assurance that they will do a good job. Keeping your standards high in this regard can only have positive results.
Sensitive Not Shy
Shyness does not equal sensitivity. If your surgeon cannot talk to you about your procedure, they should not be your surgeon. With so much stigma already surrounding female genitalia, getting a procedure that is not pregnancy-related and actually enhances female sexual satisfaction is scary enough without a surgeon who shies away from speaking to you about it. You need someone who can toe the fine line between shyness and sensitivity. They need to be honest with you about the kind of benefits of vaginal rejuvenation specific to your procedure.
Well-Equipped Centre
Remember when we said that vaginoplasty was minimally invasive and could even be done with almost zero invasion? That is only possible if your surgeon’s centre has the necessary technology, i.e. radiofrequency technology. The tools at your surgeon’s disposal determine the efficacy of your vaginal plastic surgery. Therefore, even if they seem excellent on paper, the kind of centre they use can tell you about their expertise.
Skilled in Latest Technology
Having a centre with the latest technology does not necessarily mean the surgeon knows how to use it. They may continue using surgical means rather than opting for non-surgical alternatives wherever possible. This causes unnecessary trauma and increases recovery time for a lot of patients, who also do not know better. Therefore, understanding the surgical and non-surgical methods matters. After that, you need to depend on your surgeon, to be honest about which method will work best for you.
Keeping all these factors in mind ensures that you have a much better and more precise vaginal surgery in Delhi!
Types of Vaginal Plastic Surgery
Since there are so many parts of the female genitalia that require rejuvenation, we need to discuss each part. So let’s go from the outermost procedure to the innermost one, beginning with the mons.
Monsplasty
In some patients, there is excess skin and fat in the mons. This creates an unnatural bulge which prevents them from feeling comfortable in bathing suits and tight pants. Such patients require a monsplasty, i.e. the removal of this excess skin and fat from the mons.
Monsplasty is done with liposuction. Depending on the amount of excess skin, excision may be necessary but usually is not. The fat is, therefore, removed with liposuction for natural results after which recovery takes about a week. The patient faces physical activity restrictions for 2-6 weeks, depending on how much fat and skin get removed. Once healing is complete, the patient can wear tight pants and bathing suits without any worry!
Labia Majoraplasty
In many women, the labia majora is too large or hangs very low. Apart from being aesthetically displeasing and even embarrassing, this condition can also hinder other activities like cycling due to discomfort. Therefore, women opt for a labia majoraplasty. During this procedure, your surgeon removes two small crescents of skin from each labium’s inner portion. Depending on the amount of excess tissue, removal is done. Sometimes, there may be atrophy of fatty tissue after this removal, which is easily countered through fat transfer. The closure is then done with absorbable sutures.
Recovery requires a week of icing the labia majora with the “twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off” rule. Keeping the bottom elevated also reduces swelling. Patients can typically resume intercourse after 4-6 weeks, and most of the swelling dies down within six weeks. The patient can return to work after a week.
Labia Minoraplasty/Labiaplasty/Vulvaplasty
This is usually what people refer to when they say labiaplasty. The most common vaginal plastic surgery, this procedure reduces the length of the labia minora. The procedure is generally done to prevent the labia minora from hanging below the labia majora. If there is an asymmetry in the labia, this is also corrected through this procedure.
The procedure is typically done using the trim method where the extra tissue is removed and sewn up directly. The wedge procedure is also popular since it maintains a natural border. Your surgeon removes a pie-shaped piece of tissue and simultaneously reduces extra folds of the clitoral hood. The closure is then done with absorbable sutures. During a labiaplasty, you need a surgeon who is very careful not to resect too much. This can lead to scarring near or at the vaginal opening, which causes pain during intercourse. Additionally, excessive resection can result in chronic dryness. The trim procedure generally manages to avoid these side effects better than the wedge procedure.
The patient needs to take a week off from work to recover. During this time, they need to ice the labia minora using the “twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off” rule. They should also keep their bottom elevated for swelling to go down faster so that patients can resume sexual activity within 4-6 weeks, and most major swelling reduces in 6 weeks.
Clitoral Hood Reduction
Commonly done alongside a labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction reduces extra folds in the clitoral hood that otherwise create an unattractive bulge. This procedure results in a more balanced appearance of the female genitalia.
To achieve the most natural-looking results, your surgeon marks the excess tissue according to your anatomy. This ensures that the reduction is done keeping your natural contours in mind. Following this, an excision is performed depending on the shape and extent of the folds. Due to the wide variation in this shape and extent, a single method cannot be used. Sometimes surgeons create a “Y” extension off the labiaplasty through the excision. The incisions are then closed with absorbable sutures.
Since the procedure is usually performed alongside a labiaplasty, recovery follows the same timeline.
Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty or the tightening of the vagina can be done both surgically and non-surgically. We will first discuss the surgical method and then discuss the non-surgical, non-invasive method. The latter can only be used if little tightening is required. In patients where the vagina has loosened considerably, vaginal plastic surgery is necessary for the best results.
Surgical Vaginoplasty
The benefits of vaginal rejuvenation are that it brings separated muscles together and removes extra mucosa from the back of the vagina. This is accomplished through vaginoplasties. External skin may also be removed for a more aesthetic appearance.
Before your procedure, your surgeon determines how much tightening your vagina needs. Based on this, they then mark a pie-shaped wedge that delineates extra skin for removal. This is marked inside the vagina, and then sutures are used to tighten the tissues beneath the skin. This tightens the vaginal canal, which then allows for the mucosal skin to be closed with sutures. Any external protruding skin is also removed for a better final result from the vaginal surgery in Delhi.
During their 1-2 weeks of downtime following the procedure, patients may experience a deep ache. They also cannot use tampons or have intercourse for eight weeks. Meanwhile, they are recommended to ice-heal themselves while keeping their pelvis elevated so swelling reduces faster.
Non-Surgical Vaginoplasty
This method is done through radiofrequency (RF) and laser treatments. Typically done without anaesthesia, the procedure is performed over a series of 30-minute sessions. Both RF and laser heat tissues, making them shrink and, therefore, tightening the vagina.
During the procedure, your surgeon applies ultrasound gel to the treatment area. Then, using therapeutic and RF energy, the labia and vaginal canal are tightened. This also shrinks and tightens the outer tissues while stimulating collagen and elastin fibre production. This heals and further tightens the vagina. Essentially, the genitalia is slightly wounded so that it can heal itself and tighten in the process. ThermiVA, the highly responsive instrument, initiates tissue and nerve healing while simultaneously improving the skin’s firmness. This makes it tighter and more supple.
Patients may experience some vaginal discharge for a few days and may have to refrain from intercourse and tampon use. However, the recovery itself is completely painless and easy.
Wrapping Up
The procedures together tackle various parts of female genitalia. They rejuvenate the entire look, even though you should note that achieving the pre-childbirth look is impossible. A good surgeon will work with existing anatomical structures, and childbirth often alters this structure. Therefore, trying to do vaginal surgery in Delhi to regain pre-childbirth appearances is not a viable option. It will not only look unnatural but can also have multiple adverse impacts due to the sensitive nature of the area.
Like we established multiple times, female sexuality is not talked about enough outside of the reproductive “role”. Sexual pleasure, however, is just as crucial to every gender, and this is what vaginal plastic surgery aims for. Treating this like a taboo subject only contributes to preventing adequate sexual education which means a lot of women seeking the benefits of vaginal rejuvenation are not familiar enough with their sexual organs to know what they want.
Meanwhile, the happiness caused by vaginal plastic surgery (and other types of plastic surgery) needs to be destigmatised so that more people can access the comfortable bodies they aspire for. Nobody should have to live in a body they are unhappy in. This is where Dr Rajat Gupta and RG Aesthetics come in.
